Flood susceptibility modeling of the Karnali river basin of Nepal using different machine learning approaches

چکیده

The Karnali River Basin (KRB) comprises the longest river in Nepal, located south of Himalayas. Despite its high susceptibility to floods, basin lacks detailed studies. Proper floodplain management is essential reduce impacts due rising flood frequency, magnitude, and severity aggravated by climate change. This research applies three machine learning techniques, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), event data from KRB. Ten conditioning factors; Aspect, curvature, distance a (DTR), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), elevation, slope, rainfall, soil, stream power (SPI), topographical wetness (TWI) were selected based on multicollinearity test. parameter performance was evaluated using Cohen Kappa Score, with NDVI having greatest influence, followed DTR, TWI. Based Area Under Curve Receiver Operating Characteristics (AUROC), SVM outperformed RF, ANN, ANN for FSM. area very susceptible areas ranges 0.8 2.5% area, most them low slopes elevations. results this study suggest use FSM help proper management.

Application of Machine Learning Approaches in Rainfall-Runoff Modeling (Case Study: Zayandeh_Rood Basin in Iran)

Run off resulted from rainfall is the main way of receiving water in most parts of the World. Therefore, prediction of runoff volume resulted from rainfall is getting more and more important in control, harvesting and management of surface water. In this research a number of machine learning and data mining methods including support vector machines, regression trees (CART algorithm), model tree...

assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...

Habitat mapping and conservation threats to river dolphin in Karnali River of Nepal

This study was carried out in the Karnali River of Nepal with the aims of preparing habitat map of dolphins in the Karnali River and assessing conservation threats to dolphin at the local level. The habitat map of the dolphin was prepared on the basis of study and local sightings. Altogether 100 households were surveyed around the Karnali River living within 3 km from the river distance. Questi...
